Embroidery Glossary

Embroidery is an art form full of history, innovation and endless creativity. To bring you even closer to our world, we’re diving deeper into the fascinating details behind our craft!

Ombre

Ombre is a polyester yarn designed to change colour along its length, creating a gradient or rainbow effect in every stitch. The beauty lies in its unpredictability: no two embroideries are ever the same. As the thread flows, colours blend and shift, adding depth, movement, and dimension to the design. This playful variation allows designers to explore patterns in a new way, turning simple shapes into dynamic, lively compositions.

“Bringing Ombre to life in 3D is not easy, but the outcome is stunning.”

- Jeffrey, Head of 3D

Corded Yarn

Corded Yarn is the thickest thread that can still glide through the needle of a standard embroidery machine. Its fullness gives every line a sculpted softness, as if the design were gently resting on the surface of the fabric.Because of its weight, Corded Yarn requires precision, every curve must be planned with care. Once common and now rare, it brings back a sense of craftsmanship and nostalgia, making every embroidery feel beautifully alive.

“I love how it floats on the fabric and gives depth to my designs.”

- Anina, Designer

Guipure

Guipure is created by connecting individual motifs with fine threads over open space. Patterns can range from delicate florals to graphic shapes, turning negative space into sculptural detail. This technique adds depth, texture, and dimension, making every garment a work of art. This fabric floats without foundation, each motif linked by delicate bridges. Bold in character and rich in texture, it has long been admired in couture and bridal fashion. In lingerie, guipure transforms into a statement of sensual elegance, celebrating delicacy and strength.

“A couture classic, reinvented for the intimacy of lingerie.”

- Jessica, 3D Artist

Broderie Anglaise

This timeless technique creates small holes in the fabric that are embroidered around to become part of the design itself. The holes are made using tiny drills placed just below each needle - turning precision into poetry. Airy, delicate and full of history, Broderies Anglaise is perfect for creating light, romantic looks with a touch of tradition.

“It's one of the oldest embroidery techniques and it never loses its charm.”

- Miriam, Sales Coordinator

Foil Print

Embroidery is already a world full of texture and details but Foil Print takes it to the next level! This glossy foil is pressed onto the embroidery only after the stitching is complete. It then needs to dry for a few hours to reveal its full shimmering effect. Whether transparent, solid, multi-colored, or patterned - each type creates a unique shine, sometimes even mimicking the look of leather. A stunning way to add an unexpected touch of glamour!

“I'd love to foil every design - the shine gives it a whole new look!”

- Linda, Designer

Repeat

The embroidery repeat is the rhythm of the pattern, the distance at which a design dances across the fabric. It can whisper delicately from a 4/4 repeat of 2.7 cm to a 16/4 repeat of 10.8 cm. For lingerie, 16/4 is quite a statement, since the design has to fit perfectly on a bra.

“Big repeats, big flowers – that’s my signature.”

- Amanda, Designer

Visual Print

Visual Print adds a whole new layer to embroidery. A clever printer detects exactly where the embroidery is and applies colours and effects with perfect precision. The best part? There are no limits when it comes to colours. From soft gradients to bold brush strokes, embroidery becomes a canvas for creative expression. Even the simplest designs come to life with a unique and vibrant look full of imagination.

“Think embroidery but with a twist of magic.”

- Pia, Designer
